Dear Parents,

Why is Individual IQ Assessment Needed?
Intelligence assessments provide us unusual access to understanding the highly complex cognitive abilities of children (aged 3 years and above) and insight into ways to support their giftings. Of all the opportunities parents provide to support children's strengths and promote their interests, IQ assessment offers invaluable insight into the child's needs and a road map for the future. A professional evaluation can verify cognitive strengths, assess academic achievement, and recommend specific strategies to meet a child's needs at school. This is the primary purpose of IQ assessment rather than simply to obtain an IQ score.
How Will My Child Benefit from Testing?
The benefits of testing become clear as the parent shares the report with a child's school/MOE. A professional's evaluation now provides objective verification of the child's needs and prescribes accommodations, relieving some of the parent's burden. The need for accelerated mathematics, a writing mentor, skipping of school levels, or advanced classes is supported by professional assessment. Modifications can also be recommended for weaknesses and learning difficulties, such as extended time for examinations.

Autism Assessment
Dear Parents,
We use a variety of assessment tools to diagnose Autism, Autism Spectrum Disorder ASD), Pervasive Development Disorder (PDD), and Asperger Syndrome.
We provide ADOS assessment to children, as part of an Autism assessment package which includes IQ testing and/or adaptive behavior scale. The ADOS assessment allows us to diagnose autism, and to indicate where on the spectrum the child is. Such diagnosis is useful for:
* Placement in autism-specific schools
* Establish baseline for intervention (e.g. repeating the ADOS test after intervention can show improvement along the spectrum)
* Eliminate or confirm autism for suspected cases (especially for shy children or children with verbal difficulties)
The ADOS, or Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (WPS, 1999), is a standardized, semi-structured assessment of communication, social interaction and play for individuals who may have autism or other pervasive developmental disorders. The ADOS assessment consists of standardized activities that allow the examiner to observe behaviors identified as important in children with autism spectrum disorders. Structured activities and materials provide standard contexts in which social interactions, communication and other behaviors relevant to pervasive developmental disorders are likely to appear.
